Into the Winepress

Posted on Sunday 27 September 2009

It’s been a long time coming.

For decades the United States of America has been edging away from its only real friend in the Middle East.

The relationship — which began tentatively at that brave moment when President Truman defied the ‘wise men” in his own administration and chose to recognize the newly born Jewish state; the relationship Israel worked tenaciously to strengthen in the ensuing years despite consistent opposition from within the State Department and other government circles; the relationship which since the Six Day War has become increasingly one-sided as America has chosen to cater to incessant Arab demands and press Israel into compliance — in the end it could no longer withstand the erosive onslaught it had weathered for so long.

The administration of President George W. Bush set the country apparently irreversibly on this path when it spawned the two-state vision and propelled Israel towards accepting the “Road Map for peace.”

But things came to a head at the United Nations this week in a tale of two speeches delivered in front of some 140 world leaders who had come together in New York for the 64th session of the General Assembly.

As they listened - joined by countless millions of others to whom the event was beamed around the world - these presidents and prime ministers, princes and kings witnessed the leader of the world’s most powerful nation contemptuously turn his back on one of the smallest.

And they heard the elected and oh-so-despised leader of that little nation - which has been around far, far longer than the United States and virtually every other nation with delegates in that room - spell out with dignity and conviction the justness of his people’s cause.

Betraying Israel with a kiss, Barack Obama expressed appreciation for the Jewish state, then denounced it as a nation of aggressive expansionists who were illegally occupying another people’s land.

America will not tolerate Israeli settlements, he stated emphatically. And Israel’s presence in Samaria and Judea is an “occupation” that has to end.

The situation between Israel and the Arabs was not the number one item in the American’s speech, which spelled out his vision for a new world order built on four “fundamental” pillars: Nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament, the pursuit of peace and security, the preservation of the planet and a global economy that advances opportunity for all.

Obama spoke for 38 minutes, of which less than five - well into the speech - were devoted to the Arab-Israel conflict.  The transcript is 61 paragraphs long with just five speaking to this issue.

Yet there was no doubt that, to the president, the members of the General Assembly, and the press covering the event, this was the most important issue of all. Of the 12 ovations Obama received during the speech, fully half of them came in those few short minutes as he laid down his expectations.

That the United States:

  • would continue to seek “a just and lasting peace between Israel, Palestine and the Arab world.”
  • would “continue to emphasize that America does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements.”
  • would continue to work towards the establishment of “a viable, independent Palestinian state with contiguous territory that ends the occupation that began in 1967.”
  • “does Israel no favors when [it] fails to couple an unwavering commitment to its security with an insistence that Israel respect the legitimate claims and rights of the Palestinians.”

This man’s idea of “just” is totally twisted.

According to him, Jewish settlement in the land of their forefathers is “illegitimate.”

The Jews’ presence in Samaria and Judea - the cradle wherein their nation was born, is an “occupation” that has to end.

But the Palestinian Arabs’ - who have never in history had a national home or identity; who forced their “cause” down the world’s throats by violence, terrorism murder and mayhem; who to this day vow to use any territory they get as a springboard from which to destroy the rest of Israel - these people’s demand for a national homeland to be established on those historical Jewish lands constitute “legitimate claims and rights!”

“Woe,” warns the God of Israel through the prophet Isaiah: “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” (Isaiah 5:20)

“Woe,” warns the God of Israel through the prophet Ezekiel, to those who “strengthen the hands of the wicked, so that he does not turn from his wicked way to save his life.”

Twenty-four hours after Obama leveled his blow at Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took the stand.

“I stand here today as the Prime Minister of Israel, the Jewish state” he said, eyes piercing the dignitaries as he looked around the room,

“I speak to you on behalf of my country and my people.”

Netanyahu strongly took issue with those who deny the Holocaust that killed two out of every three Jews in Europe a few short decades ago,

He reminded his audience - as if he needed to - of the burgeoning threat to destroy the State of Israel in a nuclear holocaust.

Recounting the disastrous outcome of Israel’s withdrawal from southern Lebanon (2000) and the Gaza Strip (2005), the Israeli insisted that his nation would not accept a withdrawal from the mountains of Samaria and Judea only to see a rocket-armed terrorist base set up overlooking the population centers in the coastal plain.

But if the Arabs truly want to make peace, the people of Israel will make peace with them.

Those Arabs - or their representatives - left the hall; unable to even hear an Israeli leader speak directly to them.

Others - like the fervently pro-Palestinian British delegation - sat like stone; unmoved by Israel’s clearly-presented case.

As the session came to an end - having also provided an uninhibited platform for the anti-semitic tirades of Iran’s Ahmadinejad and Libya’s Ghadaffi - Israelis took stock of the realities now confronting them.

America - the nation they had long seen as a friend and ally - has effectively crossed the field to the other side - joining with all the other nations who refuse to recognize Israel’s claim to its biblical heartland, and who demand that Israel risk its very existence to appease the Arab world.

Time alone - and perhaps not much of it at all - will show whether there is any validity to what I will now say here:

That on September 23, 2009, in his globally-screened address to world leaders at the United Nations in New York, Barack Obama moved his country close to - perhaps even into - “the winepress of the Lord.”

Long ago the Almighty warned all those nations who come against Israel that the “Day” will come when He girds up His loins and in anger and fury will tread them out, in the winepress of His wrath.

“For the day of the LORD upon all the nations is near;
As you have done, it shall be done to you;
Your reprisal shall return upon your own head.”
(Obadiah 1:15)

I think some of the first words that Bibi spoke to the UN this week were…..’Be ashamed’…….yes the nations, America, and even my own country South Africa should be very ashamed, that we do not stand up for the apple of Gods eye.May the Lord forgive for us being so gutless.

I like the way you worded that Stan, “betraying Israel with a kiss.” HOW accurate that is! Exactly!

Obama has a way with words, an orator who could sway the masses with his propaganda.

But it is not his words that will prevail, because he’s up against the Word of God! And the Word of God will not come back to him void, but it will succeed against any opposition the enemy can come up with.

We need to pray for the Lord to soften the hearts of the Jewish people and turn them to God. ONLY in HIM is their safety until this story comes to its climax. And it looks like that’s not far off.

Oh Stan! all that you have written will come to pass … all that the LORD has spoken shall come to pass! And, my friend, there are many of us here in America who did not, do not now, and never will consider Obama “our” president. But I do believe that evil person is being used of God as part of the end times scenario soon to come. May The Name of the LORD Almighty be praised! Maranatha!!!

Shalom and Baruch Haba B’Shem Adonai,

I have to agree with you … we in the Americas are the grapes of wrath! It is just incredible.
What Bibles, or Tanakhs, or Torahs (if they read them) are these people (like Obama) reading? Have they no comprehension of the promises to the children of the Hebrew father whose name is Abraham? Genesis 12 tells us in clear language.
Bending to these other children who do not believe in the Father, Son and Holy Ghost will resort to problems much deeper (and are foretold in the New Testament of the Bible in greater details … one book in particular, the book of Revelation!)
Many of the other children are (in greater numbers) converting and realizing the Truth in the Bible, Torah, Tanakh! Praise God Yahweh. They are finding out that Jesus Christ Yahshuah is Lord God and Messiah.
We are to watch for the rapture (next) as Paul informed us in his books (Thessalonians). I believe in the Lord God’s words that he will call to His children to “Come up hither” (Revelation 3). He will save us from the evil empires which are now forming a coalition.

    Peace & love to all.

Please know that the actions of this closet muslim POTUS do not reflect the views of some Americans. The USA is already under the judgment of God for our national sins and it will not get any better since our poor excuse for a president has chosen his muslim friends over Israel. The good news is, God is on Israel’s side. He has promised to defend her and promised she will never be uprooted from the land, and promised that Israel will never again be destroyed. Whether he knows it or not, the obamanation has touched the “apple of God’s eye” and will one day be running from the wrath of God screaming like a little school girl.

This article is excellent Stan and should make each one of us ask ourselves, “On which side is God”? People, who go to woship, convinced they are on God’s side, doing all they can to live correctly yet harbor hatred in their heart for the little nation of Israel, and her right to exist “wholly” in her land, will find they are walking alone, without God. How can anyone claim Isael’s Messiah as their own Messiah and hate the Jewish people? That person is only kidding himself into thinking he is secure in Him.

It isn’t even a week since the three leaders of Iran, Israel and the United States made their speeches at the United Nation. One, true to his word, is firing test missiles in his bid to destroy Israel and the other, whom speaks out of both sides of his mouth, has turned his back on the little nation. Only Israel is guaranteed to survive to the end. Read all about it in God’s Word. Two presses are getting set; one the winepress of God’s judgement……..the other, the newspress annoucing the destruction of Israel’s enemies.

I truly enjoyed PM Bibi Netanyahu’s speech! (I posted it on my blog)

Unlike our president, Bibi did not apologize for steps taken in keeping the people in Israel (not only Jews, but Christians and Arabs), safe. I pray Bibi continues to stand strong for it gives me hope that a leader can truly defend the people of the land from whom he/she was elected.

Ironically, but predictably, Southeastern U.S. which has been in a long drought for years was innundated with rain last week. So much so, it was flooded. The dates are amazing.

I am so appalled and ashamed of our National leadership. Please know that their foolishness and arrogance is only a minority point of view and not the majority of the US people. I think that our representations as been something of an obsolete issue for some time now. And for that I am regretfully saddened. Please accept our apology for the lack of brotherly love and knowledge that our US leadership has displayed.

Israel, and especially Jerusalem are constantly on my heart and mind. God is watching to see what we as individuals are thinking and doing with regards to His people, do you not perceive it? Watch your hearts and minds, beware of standing against His people. The hour is very late…

It is with a sad heart that I listened to the supposed leader of the United States move away from the people whom God loves and has called to be His forever. I would not want to be in his shoes soon as we know that God loves those who love Israel and hates those who hate her. Our prayers are with you daily and our hearts are aligned with you in the move for equality. Keep on sharing the true word and let those in the USA who don’t want to hear begin to hear.+

First; Great article, Stan. As usual you are right on.

Second; I, as an American citizen, would like to appologize to the government and people of the Jewish State of Israel for the actions of our government and especially the President. His rude and uncuthe comments have only displayed the ingnorance and blatant lack of understanding with which he has approached his office,
Third; I ask the Allmighty to please forgive the gulability of the American voting public when it elected such an outspoken enemy of His chosen people. May He be mercifull to those of us who saw through the facade and voted the other way.

    Sincerly, Melek

    Hey Stan
May God Bless You & Your’s as you speak truth to all the nation’s. I fear they are not listening for they have not read the book{ BIBLE} it is amazing for as long as the Bible has been around i would venture to say that 80% of the people that [call] themselve’s christan’s have not read The Bible. So since they choose not to read the Word Of The Only GOD of Abraham, Issac & Jacob. The Bible plainly stat’s that Our Father God will allow them to believe a great lie. And as it has been written so it will be america is about to fall under the most just of all judgement’s. For never has there been a more favored nation in the world ….. BUT it was past tense that it was highly favored for it has now forsaken it’s first love which was & Is & alway’s will be the Mighty God Of Heaven & Earth and His Son Jesus Christ.. Who is about to pass judgement on every man woman & child who has and is denying that He is Lord of Lord’s & King of King’s & the only way to the Father is through His Son Jesus Christ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
May you Be Blessed as you on the front line’s keep us in the world for the time being up on what is and about to happen over in the Father’s Land…Just remember that we are all winner’s either way if we die we will be with the Father & if we live we will be able to tell one more of our friend’s about the Saving Grace of Jesus Christ !!!!!!!! To Him Be ALL The GLORY
Praying for the Peace of Jerusalem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a shame that we have this muslim President making so many important decisions…….It is almost unbelievable……I believe our President has been groomed by our Enemies and he is doing exactly what they want him to do……He is putting our Nation under real fast.

America has been blessed in so many ways in the past because we were with Israel, now that is quickly changing and our Nation will suffer for it……..Israel does not even have all the land now that was promised to Abraham, but one day they will and there will be total PEACE when the Messiah returns……Praise God…..What a Day That Will Be……It looks like that day is fast approaching…….May God’s Will Be Done.

Thank you brother Stan. Continue in the LORD’S work.

The Trigger has been set against America.

Heavenly Father, the United States of America is a rebellious people with rebellious leaders. This nation takes counsel with the unrighteous and rejects the counsel of Your righteous direction. The leader of this nation weaves a wicked and deceitful web, devising plans not of Your HOLY SPIRIT O LORD of HOSTS. Adding sin to sin this nation follows after lust and rejects Your salvation JESUS CHRIST.

Woe to this land of rebellion. Deceitful and froward these people hold not Your laws of righteousness within their heart O LORD. Deaf and blind to Your counsel they have willfully become. A people led by pleasure, comfort, and lust of flesh instead of by Your HOLY SPIRIT.

The ears of this land have silenced Your prophets that warn. They remove the prophets and their words of Truth from their presence, only to replace them with seers of deceit. Saying unto these, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits. Isaiah 30:10

The United States of America causes the HOLY ONE of Israel to cease from before her.

As before with the children of Israel, Your warnings and judgments stand true O LORD!

Because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and stay thereon: Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant. And He shall break it as the breaking of the potters’ vessel that is broken in pieces; He shall not spare: so that there shall not be found in the bursting of it a sherd to take fire from the hearth, or to take water withal out of the pit. Isaiah 30:12-14

You land of great rebellion, your destruction will be complete. Your sins are exceedingly great and the blood of the innocent has pierced the peace before the Highest Throne upon which sits the ALMIGHTY GOD, the I AM, YAHWEH! He has heard and moves against you! Before you is the burdensome stone of Jerusalem.

United States of America, your destruction draweth nigh!

You cometh O LORD with burning anger against them that come up against Your great burden! Your tongue is as a devouring fire against them, against all who attempt to carry, move, or touch your burdensome stone of Jerusalem! Do these people not know of YOUR power O LORD?

Has it not been told to them that You, my GOD YAHWEH, the LORD of HOSTS will seek to destroy all nations that come up against Jerusalem? Woe to him and the land that defies the words of the ALMIGHTY GOD!

And the Lord shall cause His glorious voice to be heard, and shall show the lighting down of His arm, with the indignation of His anger, and with the flame of devouring fire, with scattering, and tempest, and hailstones. Isaiah 30:30

As birds flying, so will the LORD of HOSTS defend Jerusalem; defending also He will deliver it; and passing over He will preserve it. Isaiah 31:5

Woe to any man who leads a nation against Israel and Jerusalem! Heed the words of YAHWEH, whose fire is in Zion, and His furnace in Jerusalem.

Heavenly Father, let Your will be done.

    Amen.

    -daniel

This is an awesome reality stated in this article. Please let the people of Israel know that not all of the people these Unites States are not against you. It is the president who is speaking on behalf of himself and the people that he has surrounded himself with. I posted this question as a comment to your last article, but I will ask here as well: what do you propose doing with the 3 million Arabs living in Judea and Samaria? They are obviously not content with the current situation and often break out in violence. The settler movement seems to be losing favor among much of the Israeli population.

Should Israel just maintain the status quo? Slowly growing Jewish population in Judea and Samaria, and a quickly growing Muslim one? Regular cycles of Muslim violence and terrorism with no end in sight?

The two State solution is obviously not a solution. It has always been a bloody (literally) waste of time. And yet even Netenyahu, in the UN speech you rightfully lauded, voiced his consent to the establishment of a Palestinian State (with some conditions).

    So, what should Israel do?

Matt - The Arabs that hate Israel - whether for reasons of religion (the majority) or reasons of nationalism - will bring the solution upon themselves, and will have themselves and their allies in the international community to thank. A political answer would be for the Israeli government to turn a deaf ear to the rest of the world and annex de jure Samaria, Judea and Gaza. With that done the Knesset could pass a law offering full citizenship to all the Arabs in these areas provisional on their swearing allegiance to the Jewish State of Israel and shouldering all the obligations of the rest of Israel’s citizens, including IDF service. Those not willing to accept these requirements and abide by them would be required by law to leave the land and seek residence elsewhere. Were the United States and other nations truly interested in helping secure a JUST solution, they would stand up to the blackmailing Arab states and insist that they open their doors to these Arabs. The Arabs are - after all - primarily responsible for the “Palestinian” refugees (for making their fathers into refugees and for keeping them in this state for the last six decades; the Arabs also have the land (940 times more territory than Israel) and the wealth (just look at the figures for the income they earn from their oil sales) to absorb the “Palestinians” without even feeling it. As we have seen - the US and the rest of the western world do not have the manhood to do what they morally and ethically should do. When the Arabs - encouraged by the world - drag Israel into war, the outcome of that conflict will - very likely - be the solution to the Palestinian issue - and to the greater issue too. Israel will be blamed by the world, but will be found blameless by those of us who know the truth and who have not been brainwashed or terrorized into siding against the Jewish state and people.

Woe to America. We have been overthrown without a single shot. Many people voted for “change” what we got are “chains”. Mrs. Obama stated “Barack will be a hard taskmaster” (before the election). Recently she stated “Barack will never let you go back to life as it was.” I pray for you Israel and for you Benjamin Netanyahu. May the GOD of Israel give you courage and may the people of Israel lean upon Him as their Rock and defence. The arm of the LORD is not shortened that He cannot save. Blessed be the Name of the LORD.

    Stan,

I agree that Israel should annex Judea and Samaria. In fact, Israel should have done so long ago, rather than leaving it in its current ambiguous state.

I doubt the wisdom of offering citizenship to the Arabs there, regardless of their willingness to swear an oath to Israel. I am sure you are aware of the Muslim policy of taqiya, or lying in the advance of Islam. Who is to say that all 3 million of them wouldn’t cross their fingers (metaphorically, of course), take the oath, and then begin to undermine the Jewish character of Israel by voting for Islamist parties. In a few short years Israel could have a majority Muslim population, with terrible consequences.

Perhaps a better idea would be to annex the territory and pressure Jordan and other Arab countries to offer full citizenship to the Arabs of Judea and Samaria. Those Arabs that chose could then relocate to that country, having been justly compensated for any property they have left behind in Israel.

Any Arabs that do not wish to leave could remain in Israel on what would basically be a long term resident visa, allowing them to live and work in Israel but not vote (they could exercise their national voting rights in whatever Arab country had given them citizenship). Of course, any law breaking, terrorist activity, or support for either would cause them to lose their resident visas and be deported to their own country.

It goes without saying that Islamists parties our groups that preach hate against Israel or Jews should be banned, and that Israel should direct the material taught in Arab schools in the country.

While it would take assistance from the EU, America, and other Arab countries–which currently seems unlikely, it would be a change from the current go-nowhere “peace plan”.

I think Israel’s supporters should have an actual plan beyond just saying “the land is Israel’s”. The land is currently full of non-Jews who are not inclined to share, and since this isn’t 3,000 BC and Arabs are not Philistines or Jebusites we shouldn’t endorse, either openly or tacitly, the killing or expulsion of millions of people (that is not to say that you do, this is a general ‘we’).

Christian supporters have for too long let Arabs and liberal politicians frame the terms of the debate. The Two State solution is a non-starter. We should be prepared to offer a just, reasonable, and Godly alternative.
