Trust in the Lord and stand on the Land

Posted on Tuesday 17 February 2009

Israel’s would-be new leadership – and Israelis as a whole – can continue to duck and dive around the subject, doing everything within their intellectual and political ability to avoid engaging it head on, but it remains the most central of all the issues confronting this nation.

It will not go away. It will keep on bedeviling governments, stymieing prime ministers, grid-locking cabinets, bringing rule to a dead end and repeatedly forcing early elections, until those leaders reach office who are willing to acknowledge and confront the matter, and take the uncompromising stand that will ensure they resolve it.

After 20 years of prime ministers trying every other proffered path – Madrid, Oslo I, Oslo II etc, the Road Map, Annapolis – only to run themselves ragged around the futility of them all, Israel needs a leader who will declare, ‘enough is enough,’ and turn with resolve onto the road all before have been unwilling  to tread.

It’s staring them in the face.

Kadima Party chairman Tzipi Livni – whose party was specifically created by Ariel Sharon to facilitate the crime of the “Disengagement” from Gaza – showed us why Monday night.

“We need to give up half of the Land of Israel,” she told a convention of American Jewish leaders, pushing the pusillanimous position that this is the only way to keep Israel Jewish.

Livni hopes she’s found a partner in Avigdor Lieberman – chairman of the Israel Our Home Party that came from behind to win a potentially king-making 15 mandates in the February 10 election.

Notwithstanding his party’s patriotic name, and the media’s wall-to-wall painting of him as a “rightist,” Lieberman doesn’t stand with the Jews’ land claim.

He rejects the parameters of the “two-state-solution” which sees an Arab state created in Judea, Samaria and Gaza while Israel reverts to its 1948-1967 size. But his platform is open to ceding other pieces of territory, including the Galilee Triangle with its hundreds of thousands of Israeli Arabs.

Lieberman has taken a strong stand against the treacherous behavior of those Israeli Arabs, including Arab Knesset members, who have profusely promoted the aims of Israel’s enemies. This is understood to be the main reason many Jews, disillusioned by the manifest failure of the land-for-peace process to abate Arab aggression and hostility, flocked to Israel Our Home.

Kadima, increasingly determined to keep the Likud’s Benjamin Netanyahu out of the prime minister’s office, will compromise to woo Lieberman.

Livni lieutenant Haim Ramon announced Monday the party was able to agree with 90 percent of the positions held by Israel Our Home.

Kadima is hoping “to break apart the mass of right-wing parties that would recommend [Netanyahu],” Ynetnews reported, quoting a party official:

“We’re not sure Lieberman will recommend Bibi, so we must do everything possible to make sure he doesn’t.”

Will this gelling of parties with centrist and rightist facades but leftist positions lull Israelis once again, or wake them up?

And what about “Bibi?”

Could it be true, as skeptics argue, that this son of a strongly Zionist family who failed to stand against American pressure to divide up his homeland will, after all, midwife Palestine?

Speaking Monday to the same group of visiting Jewish leaders Livni had just visited, Netanyahu partially answered the question.

According to the Associated Press – which like most the pro-Arab foreign media would like to help distance voters from Netanyahu – the Likud leader “indicated that his offer to the Palestinians should he be appointed prime minister would be considerably less than a sovereign state.”

“Regardless how the solution is achieved, the Palestinians should run their lives. They should govern themselves, but they shouldn’t have certain powers that would threaten the State of Israel.”

Netanyahu reportedly ruled out unilateral territorial pullbacks a’la Gaza which, he correctly charged, had enabled Hamas to seize the strip.

But he did this without acknowledging that his own unwillingness to leave the Sharon government earlier than he eventually did effectively helped the “disengagement” go through.

So what’s this all about, you may ask.  The two who would be prime minister ARE speaking to the question of the Land.

What they are doing is positioning themselves to surrender it, if in varying degrees.

This is not the answer. It might win them the temporary support – again – of this country’s vacillating voters. But these short-term “solutions” benefit Israel’s foes. For 20 years, the “peace process” has only fueled the Arab appetite and enabled them to improve the means to satisfy it.

For goodness sake – even The Jerusalem Post (once the Palestine Post – the JEWISH Palestine Post) long ago began routinely calling Judea and Samaria “the West Bank!”

Israel should roll an immovable rock in the way, and stop the slide.

This process has already cost a terrible number of Jewish lives – and brought things to the point where the IDF this very week, for the first time in years, informed the government that Israel faces an existential threat.

That’s a claxon call that should freeze in their tracks everyone who knows about the never-ending history of attempts to wipe this nation out.

But how to stop it is precisely the way Israelis have not been willing to go for a long, long time.

It stops where it starts. It stops at the question, who owns this land? Whose is it? Who does it BELONG to?

The only answer is that it belongs – from the river to the sea – to the Jewish people.

It is theirs by God’s decree. No one on this earth can stand against that; against Him.  And that is reason enough.

But it is also theirs by historic right – and no other nation on earth has ever had it as their national homeland. It is theirs because of the millions of their fellow Jews who were persecuted and murdered because they insisted on clinging to their national identity and to the hope of  “next year” returning to it. It is theirs because of the blood of tens of thousands of Jewish lives sacrificed to prevent evil, usurping nations from taking it by terror and by force. And for those who care about human justice, it is theirs according to international law as ratified by the League of Nations.

I don’t believe Mrs. Livni is approachable on this.

Mr. Netanyahu, on the other hand, is on record as repeatedly declaring his belief that Christian Zionists are Israel’s most loyal friends. He knows how concerned we are.

As one of these friends, I would say with the greatest respect and absolute conviction, that if he wants to do what is unquestionably the most important thing for his nation: spell this out. Now. Not after he’s become prime minister. We cannot outsmart God.

Today, unequivocally, without apology or hesitation, the Arab world, the Islamic world, the western world, even America, even President Barack Obama – especially President Barack Obama – needs to hear these words:

“The Land of Israel belongs in perpetuity to the Jewish people, and we will never agree to giving any of it away.”

And the commitment should be made to annex Judea, Samaria AND Gaza, incorporating all of the Land of Israel into the Jewish state, forever.

God will honor those who honor Him.

To underline this – as a Gentile believer who worships that God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, may I remind Israel’s Jews – with their unparalleled history of suffering, survival, return and national resurrection – of the parameters the LORD set out for them when He brought them from Egypt to give them this land.

As Moses said to them:

“For the land, into which you are entering to possess it, is not like the land of Egypt from which you came, where you used to sow your seed and water it with your foot like a vegetable garden. But the land into which you are about to cross to possess it, a land of hills and valleys, drinks water from the rain of heaven, a land for which the LORD your God cares; the eyes of the LORD your God are always on it, from the beginning even to the end of the year.” (Deuteronomy 11:10-12)

For Israel to enjoy an abundance of food in their new land, they would have no mighty Nile to depend on. They would have to trust in the Almighty God for rain. He undertook to send it. All they had to do was remain faithful to and trust in Him.

So too with the indefensible situation of their tiny land – lying at the mercy of the mighty kings and empires that would rise and fall in Africa, Asia and Europe. Massive armies would want to march across Israel and devour it, or keep it as a vassal state, as they warred against one another. For Israel to survive her people HAD to remain faithful and keep trusting in their God.

Nebuchadnezzar, one of those great kings, sent his chief of staff to convince Israel of the folly of such trust:

Then Rabshakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in Judean, saying, “Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria. Thus says the king, ‘Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you from my hand; nor let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, “The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.” Do not listen to Hezekiah, for thus says the king of Assyria, “Make your peace with me and come out to me, and eat each of his vine and each of his fig tree and drink each of the waters of his own cistern, until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and honey, that you may live and not die.” But do not listen to Hezekiah when he misleads you, saying, “The LORD will deliver us.” Has any one of the gods of the nations delivered his land from the hand of the king of Assyria? Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena and Ivvah? Have they delivered Samaria from my hand? Who among all the gods of the lands have delivered their land from my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem from my hand?’” (2 Kings 18:28-35)

So it is today. Human rationale and logic says Israel has no alternative but to go along with what the world wants and relinquish claim and title to their land. The followers of other gods, gods like Allah, and gods like 21st Century Secular Humanism, say Israel has no choice and Israel has no chance.

But along with the Psalmist this is my plea:

“O Israel, trust in the LORD; He is your help and your shield.”

And this is my continuous prayer:

Not to us, O LORD, not to us,
But to Your name give glory
Because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your truth.
Why should the nations say,
“Where, now, is their God?”
(Psalm 115: 1-2)

    Stan:

As you know, Psalm 115 is one of my favorite Psalms. I love the last two verses:

” It is not the dead who praise the Lord, those who go down to silence; 18 it is we who extol the Lord, both now and forevermore. ”

Israel is not dead! Judiasm that believes the scriptures is not dead! People who believe in the the Lord are not dead! Not because they trust in the governments and systems of the world. It is because they trust in and believe in the Lord G-d, and His promises, and His commands.

Praise G-d! Israel is not dead! AMEN

To the Israeli Jews: Stand firm, trust in the Lord G-d, for He is with you and will give you strength. Most of the USA people love you more than what is portrayed in television, newspapers and magazines. We are praying for you to experience G-d’s gracious care and protection.

The prophet Joel speaks of the coming Day of the LORD. There are two views presented here: the judgment on the Gentiles and blessing for Israel. Chapter 3:
    verses 1&2 caught my attention.
“For behold in those days, and in that time when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem, I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and PARTED MY LAND.”
If God says the Gentiles have parted His land, then it must follow that the land will be parted…..perhaps in our day. The nations of the earth are determined to divide Israel, and they will most likely succeed in doing so. But they will pay for this grave obsession. God will deal with them and in the end, God’s land, which He coveneted to Abraham and his descendants will belong to God and His people.
Verses 14-16, “Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision; for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining. The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel” So says the Word of the LORD God.

I read this comment given by Livni concerning giving up land for peace, “A Dove on a window “, as far as Arafats followers go!., they are on the side of the Iranians, “Wipe Israel off the map into nonexistance”, and they will settle for nothing else! . Israel needs to fight for their life with every once of blood they have in them, Read Daniel 12:1-3 and be wise!!!!!. The wise do understand according to Daniel 12:10, “Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

Dear Jeanette, the land has been parted and is in the process of being parted, and I believe judgement has already fallen and is falling on the nations, though as you say the Lord will bring all nations to the valley of decision/Jehoshaphat. It was parted in 1922 when the british created transjordan, now called jordan, Samaria and Judea and parts of Lebanon and the Golan Heights are all part of the Biblical promised land, and probably a lot more, but lets not get into that, (too controversial)

    Stan,

Your article is quite articulate and very timely. However, do you really expect the Jewish leadership of Israel–who denies their Messiah—to make the right decisions regarding the land? A people blinded to the means of their spiritual salvation can hardly be expected to see the means of their physical security. They are a people who read the Tanakh and are yet unable or unwilling to see the main point of the entire body of scripture. It’s no surprise that they are unable or unwilling to see the truth concerning the land of God as well.

Of course, simply because the people fail to heed to truth does not mean that others have no mandate to preach it. The crying out must go on, whether or not the people listen. But I suspect that the people of Israel must come to recognize their Messiah before we can have much hope of them obeying God’s other commands. Praise the LORD for those believers faithfully preaching the Gospel to the lost sheep of the house of Israel!

Also, do you have a proposal as to what to do with the millions of hostile Arabs living in Judea and Samaria, and indeed in Israel itself? Saying the land should belong to Israel is very right and proper, but what to do about all the Arabs?

Is there a plan or solution that you endorse?

I would love to hear it! Thanks for the articles.

    Shalom

Yes ‘from the river to the sea’ IS Jewish land - has been since God covenanted it to Abraham, to Isaac, to Jacob and onwards. No man, no Government, no Organisation can take on the living God and succeed, try as they might!

Jews in Israel, this is YOUR land! Pray for it’s wholeness, its completeness, and do not give in to terrorists and those who are only interested in the supply of oil. Pray to the Lord to protect and heal the land, resting on His promises, not anyone else’s!

    God bless Israel.

    Hey Stan
As in the day’s of old Israel also was srrounded by the army’s of there enemie’s. They hid in their tent’s a young sheperad boy was sent to give his older brother’s food from their father. As he looked over the situation all he seen was some big fool coming out & degrading In his mind the Mighty God of Israel after all who did the army’s of israel represent. He went out aganist this so called giant of that day, As with the bear & the lion he went out with the power of the Mighty God of Israel those same stupid army’s are against you today grab ahold of your God And by that i do not mean the god’s of this world money, government’s, leader’s who promise you everthing in return for nothing…… Because that is all you are going to git is nothing in the Mighty Name of The God Of Abraham.Isaac & Jacob & His Son Jesus Christ The Holy Spirit or Comforter stop looking to the king’s of this world to save you and LOOK UP for that is the only place you will find Strengh. David did not look to the army for strengh he looked up to the only God that can save you today as back then. You must not bow to the lieing theiving so called god’s of this world allah, buddah or any other name the world would like to call satan he was lieing back in David’s day and he is still a LIER today. Dont look to any country or man for you are being decived. But You Must Grab A hold Of Him With All You Got!!!!!!!!!!!!! For Truly Your Very Existance Depend’s On Him Today As It Did In The Day’s Of Old.

One more thing, when everyone says that everything “from the river to the sea” belongs to Israel I assume they mean the Jordan River.

But doesn’t the Bible say the portion given to Israel is everything from the River Euphrates to the Brook of Egypt? cf. Isaiah 27:12, Deu. 11:24, Numb. 34:5, and many others.

So, when does everyone start demanding that Israel take the East Bank in Jordan and send troops to posses all of Syria up to the Euphrates?

To Chris: Yes, I realize that Israel does not yet control all of the land covenanted to them by God. But, I believe, if God allows it, that it will be parted even more. I hate to see this happen. I support a Jewish Israel whleheartedly. But, we don’t know how far God will allow this controversy to go on. It certainly looks to me like the true Israel of the Jews is being hemmed in and that the vice is tightening. Sometimes, when man is at the end of himself, he finally turns to God for his only hope. Israel will turn some day to Yeshua, their true Messiah. May that day come soon.

Yes, thank you for saying it so well. Before I was brought to the understanding of God’s ways I was shown in a dream, the day that all Jews would know that, Jesus is their Messiah. They were crying and very sad and ashamed. Walking, down a road, into something I could not see. I was crying so uncontrollably. I did not understand until , through years of studing God’s word, learning of the plan of His great love. Daily I pray for God’s people to turn to the truth and I am thankful for all those that have.

But my heart breaks to think of all of those that will not. For that which was for them, they gave to me in their writings of God’s word and yet they themselves have rejected.

I was born with a love for God’s people that no man could remove. I did not understand why I was not to speak of my thoughts and ask questions as I did startiing at the age of four. It was forbidden when I would ask why they were considered so bad. I was born in 1944. But God made sure I was never stopped. I have never done any great thing, but God has given me the abillity to write since my youngest son died in 1999. I did not know how to write, I was terrible in English, grammar and yet God taught me in seven years how to put down my words. I have written continously since then all hours of the day and night. Whenever God speaks to me. He will give me a dream that makes no since and end it with a word, just one word and from there God leads me through the Bible. My first word was an unknown word for man. Manunlate, it is not in any dictionary. I had to figure it out myself. My first lesson.

Man - which means human being”.
UN - not, opposite of, contrary to.
LATE - means coming or remaining after the due, usual, or proper time.

Meaning that we as human beings are opposite in our thinking of our maker. We are contrary to His ways. Our ways are not His ways nor are our thoughts His thoughts. We are either coming after or remaining still the same, without coming into the proper time. God’s time. God has given each and everyone a time. Simply put, “ Man without God”.

No human ever taught me what I am learning now. I would still be a helpless sinner if it was left up to them.

My son lead me through a Jesus believing Jewish congregation for a few years until he died. I didn’t understand at the time what God’s purpose was but I knew I had to be there. God wanted me to know His people and who Jesus really was.

I follow the writings of men and women like you that also have been given knowledge of the tree of life by God. It helps to know that I am not the only one and the word tells me I am not, but to find them in everyday life is very far and few between. Thank God, for you being a believer . Your words and those like you, give me hope that God’s chosen are still out there. I leave you with these words:

Who Among You Can Change His Ways

    The land is God’s.
He will give to whomever He pleases.
All that we know, cannot stop it.
All that we try to compromise, is in vain.
    It was already done,
    When the word was spoken,
    In the beginning!

Well I think it is swell of the Vatican to remove the shared stigma to the Jews for killing Christ. I mean this is right up there with tossing replacement theology ( hasnt happened yet )
So I recently did a little survey of my aquaintences. The agnostic thinks the Jews have been acting horribly, the athiest thinks the jews should be removed from the scene, the Christians I know arent even aware there is a problem. Problem and events including, election, rockets, Iranian nuclear program, etc.
Here is the thing. Everything we know or consider about this God of ours is a direct result of that which was handed down by H-s chosen. Our religion, or what ever you want to call it is tied to Israel, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob. None of our beliefs start at the birth of Christ for goodness sakes. Think about it. After reading Josephus a couple times, the Bible 20 or so times, to live in the New Testament alone is absolute folly. It reduces G-d to all this current day provision theology. G-d will make good on all of H-s promises. The Bible doesn’t stand without the history of Israel. The Jews know a heck of alot about the chain of events that got us to this point. If only they would grasp the reality that Jesus created our universe and rules it. A thoughtful Christian can only watch, hope, and pray that one day the Jews will fully realize just how special they are and how bad it is for the rest of us when they muddle about.

There’s a post of Stan’s called ‘Days of Messiah’, posted Wed 8 August 2007, that’s really worth a reread. Came across it sorting papers. Here’s part of it:

“In a July 17 message headed ‘Redemption is at hand’, Hebron’s Rabbi Gary Cooperberg wrote:

” “We are getting to the point where even the most absurd concepts are being accepted as normal and reasonable. The very survival of our nation appears to be under grave threat by our own leaders. All likely contenders for the office of our next prime minister are cut from the same cloth and promise no improvement.

” “Clearly redemption is closer than ever. When the majority of Jews realise that none of our leaders is able to help us they will turn in desperation to our Father in Heaven. They will begin to understand that the only explanation for our very existence is owing to His infinite mercy and personal protection. Then we will return unto Him in penitence, prayer and supplication and seek to serve Him by observing His Law. Then we will become worthy of His miracles which will permeate the world and fulfill the prophesies which have yet to come to pass. He will send us one True Jewish Leader who will lead us in battle and return genuine Jewish pride and fear of G-d to our nation.” ”

Time will show us more clearly what cloth Bibi is cut from. At this point, I would just like to see strength in negotiations with Livni and others; no undermining compromises made on his part in his efforts to form a unity government.

My heart aches along with yours, Stan, over the foolish and suicidal tendencies of Israel’s leaders. As I read your words, I am reminded that the single greatest need of the Jewish people–my Jewish people–is for them to turn from their sins and follow their Messiah. We need to pray that Israel will indeed trust in the LORD.

Did anyone else on this blog have a little confidence in the rockets stopping after Cast Lead? I remember reading someone said there might be rockets for a few days after end of operation because of communication problems. Hmmmm Been more than a few days

I’ve read a prophecy/warning (not fulfilled as of March1, 2009), that if Israel or Jerusalem gets divided and given away then the country (s) that instigates this will be punished by God. God says in the Bible that those who will bless Israel will be blessed and those who curse Israel will be cursed.
