Today I unsubscribed from The Jerusalem Post

Posted on Sunday 2 March 2008

The Post is Israel’s main English-language daily, and I have been a reader since my first day in this country, more than 20 years ago.

Back when I came to live in Jerusalem the paper was run under Executive Editor David Bar-Illan, z-l. A brilliant mind housing a powerful and uncompromising Zionist spirit, Bar-Illan took the Post to its greatest heights, making it one of the 10 most influential newspapers in the world.

Last week, while on the way to the north, I was browsing through The Jerusalem Post as my bus wended its way through the lush green of the late-winter countryside.

Not far from the coastal port city of Haifa, I almost choked. That evening, as soon as I returned home, I fired the following letter to the editor:

Sir

It was with a sense of dismay and real disappointment that I read this statement in your editorial ‘Insatiable Extremism’ (The Jerusalem Post, February 28, 2008):

“This newspaper recognizes that for Israel to remain at once Jewish in character and democratic, it must relinquish territory to which it claims a biblical and historic right and separate from the Palestinians.”

While I have for years tracked your paper’s drift away from the political center towards the left, I had no idea that the Post’s editors had so fully subscribed to President George W. Bush’s “Two State Vision” as to unabashedly endorse it. Yes, I know the entire international community is pushing Israel down this road and endeavoring to sever you from the cradle of your nationhood - the odds are overwhelming; it’s not surprising that you, too, have succumbed to them. But it is still a terrible shame. And mark these words, with their roots cut off, no nation can survive.

I will be terminating my subscription until such time as your editors return to a more healthy, Zionist position. David Bar-Illan, a personal friend and one of the best editors ever to stand at the helm of The Jerusalem Post, must be spinning in his grave.

Yours regretfully

Stan Goodenough, Editor
JERUSALEM NEWSWIRE
Jerusalem

Needless to say, the letter was not published. Still, today I called the subscription office in Tel Aviv, and ended mine.

With so many obviously so called supporters of Israel climbing on this band wagon for peace, one begins to feel as if it is as unavoidable as the sunrise. Do we begin to suspect that God has a hand in this insanity, to set in motion the things of the furture that we have all read time and time again. Something will create the opportunity for the profane object to arrive on the scene. Some political tomfoolery will create the proper entry point for the enemy. Lest we somehow forget, GOD will take the day in the end

I keep forgetting to add. Thank you so much Stan for being present and a witness for all of us, and a steady reminder of God’s love for Jerusalem and Israel. May He continue to pour out His blessings on you and yours for your continued efforts on our behalf.

Stan, I stand with you and will no longer read the Jerusalem Post. Give up territory that was fought with valor and honor to secure the lives of those who use to live in constant fear. Israeli’s unite and do not allow the West to influence what is crucial to your security.

For it is the G-d who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of G-d in the face of Yeshua Messiah. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of G-d and not of us. We are hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying about in the body the dying of Adon Yeshua, that the life of Yeshua also may be manifested in our body…Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. (2Co 4:6-18)

Luk 21:28 “Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” (e.m.)

    Well done Stan!
I came to the same conclusion and cancelled my Jerusalem Post
subscription 3 years ago. They still phone me from time to time to
    persuade me to renew it.

Sadly, the Jerusalem Post years ago became a mouthpiece of Leftist propaganda.
They once told the truth and supported Israel… now they censor readers comments and spin the news in line with Leftist, anti-Israel, anti-Zionist thinking.

Good that you finally saw the light Stan.

Jerusalem Post Editor Horovitz needs to be replaced by someone more
    pro-Israel. May it happen soon.

As a new reader of the online JPost, I had wondered about their reporting. I thought that they were trying too hard to be unbiased.Their left-leaning is disturbing. I see alot of comments that lean to the left or are outright anti-Israel, but there are plenty of other commentors who set them straight, too. Thanks for the heads-up on this.

Good for you, Mr. Stan Goodenough! Your camaraderie (solidarity) is admirable. I think Jpost knew they would lose readership. They’ve been aggressively calling me to subscribe. I’m happy that I changed my mind.
    Salud to the Israeli Soldier!

Good for you Stan! I’ve never subscribed, but I always read their articles, and I too have had many questions with their stanse on Israel. Very upsetting to say the least.

    BRAVO STAN,
Your stand against the Jerusalem Post is like the values voter here in the United States. There are areas in life where there is NO COMPROMISE, no compromise at all. THANKS

Hello Stan: It has been about five or six years since I decided not to renew my subscription to the Jerusalem Post. Even back then I was finding too many liberal articles to make it worth the while. I believe the owner(s) of the post have ties to the CFR. A new world order organizaton. Doesn’t that say it all. God Bless, David

Shalom! That is exactly why I cancelled my subscription several years ago. They were leaning to much to the left and I could see the handwriting on the wall.

As a Bible reading and heeding pro-Zionist Christian, I fully understand and support Stan’s position. We need more rational Israelis like Stan who fully understand that one cannot negotiate and compromise with self-declared mortal enemies without risking a fate worse than the holocaust.
.When will the blind God-defying people running the Israeli government grasp this blatant fact fueled by the underlying rabidly anti-Semitic mindset of the UN and a large segment of the world that resist God’s divinely ordained plan for Jerusalem and Israel?
“Yea, let God be true, but every man a liar” (Romans 3;4; KJV) and ” With the Lord on my side as my helper, I will see the downfall of my foes” (Kethuvim 118.7: Tanakh).

Stan has done right. We must hold the gatekeepers of the truth to accountability. Just as the ten spies who returned with an evil report, words of fear, the media must be held accountable for their affect on the population.

The line between faith and fear becomes more distinguished each day. Fear is like a weed and spreads like wildfire. Faith is like a tree, it takes more time to grow, but is enduring. Fear is paralyzing many Israeli’s causing them to crumble in the face of adversity. Those who have faith must earnestly pray against the Spirit of Fear consuming Israel. As with Gideon’s Army, G-d does mighty things with the few, be encouraged in the L-rd of Hosts. In unity of faith we can overcome the Evil One. Pray — with no retreat.

I admire your stand and your voice in supportting Israel’s right to the land, but how did a link to that contrary voice from “Jewish Voice for Peace” get on your website? How do they think that any lasting peace can be achieved with the Palestinian terrorists?

Hello Stan: I am with you and all Israel, do not give up an inch of land it belongs to the Jewish people, not arabs. Israel is the apple of G-D eye, not even George Bush has that right, the leader of the U.S.A.

Good news Stan, You know that A ‘left ‘can never be A ‘right’- so why do these people still try to make it so?? Yeshua said let your yes be a Yes and your no be a No. Thanks for the NO to appeasement.

    Shalom Stan,
Thank you for your actions. It is refreshing to see someone act on their beliefs. There are a few of us here in the United States that are dismayed to see the direction the media is taking.
May Adonai bless you and your efforts.

    In Yeshua,
    Ken.

    Jerusalem Post betrays Zionism…

The Jerusalem Post sells out to the terrorists:

“This newspaper recognizes that for Israel to remain at once Jewish in character and democratic, it must relinquish territory to which it claims a biblical and historic right and separate from the Pale…

Good call Stan. I unsubscribed a few years back but was not aware of their stand. I read up a bit and was unaware about a “little” historical fact. When Yeshua walked the Land of Israel. It was called Israel. Most of us know about the Destruction of Yerushalem in 70 AD. However I was unaware until 6 years ago that in 120 A.D., There was another “sacking” of Yerushalem by another Ceasar from Rome. They once again killed Chistians and Jews whever they could find them. The ultimate insult though was to rename the Land Phillistinia. Later the British changed that to “Palestine”. Hence why many Arabic people who have lived there for a thousand or so years are so confused on the subject. I am a Zionist, a lover of the Nation of Israel, it’s people, and always will be. I fear for our (USA) Country as we know the Fate of any Nation that lends it’s hand to the splitiing up of God’s Land.
    Shalom fellow watchman

I totally agree. After reading The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, it is uncanny that one sees history repeating itself. Keep on eroding the land to the wishes of outsiders and sure enough, there will be nothing left to give away.No matter what we the Jewish people do, it will never be enough to those who wish to destroy Israel.

GOOD FOR YOU STAN…..AM WITH YOU ALL THE WAY. THIS IS ONE AMERICAN THAT DOES NOT WANT TO SEE ISRAEL DIVIDED. THIS AMERICAN WANTS TO SEE ISRAEL RETURN TO THE LAND OF THEIR INHERITANCE AND STAND UP FOR EVERY SQUARE INCH OF IT. THIS AMERICAN STANDS TRUE TO THE GOD OF ISRAEL AND IS ASHAMED OF THE LIBERAL IGNORANT LEFT OF THE USA and other parts of the world WHO ARE SO BLINDED BY THEIR EVIL GREED. I PRAY THAT YOUR TRUTH IS SPREAD LIKE A WILD FIRE….WE HERE ON THIS POST WILL HELP YOU SPREAD THE WORD….THE TRUTH!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Stan - first occasion of coming onto your website. From what I have read I endorse the thrust of your communications. I don’t see much of caroline glick (reporter) these days - she used to write some clear and cutting reports on the israeli leadership. I am a believer in Yeshua in NZ and we regularly host israelis (through Host israeli travellers HIT) as they take time out from the “war zone”. Several other believers and I are coming over to Lebanon, Jordon and Israel in September October this year. Also plan to visit and support the people of Sderot when in Israel. Can I ask 2 things first: suggestion of 4-6 reputable secular and christian web sites re israel currently I draw from debka, arutz sheva, dave hunt and jacob praesch and second suggestion of believers (a church?) in lebanon that we can meet with and encourage while there. We have a friend who returns to Lebanon from NZ most years and is based in Jezzine, above Sidon - we will link with him. Any thoughts. Once again fully support your efforts - it is encouraging to see believers in and outside ha eretz that are being used for God’s glory Blessings in Yeshua, Nick (you are welcome to add my comment as an endorsement of your website if you wish)
